(WXYZ) — Three Michigan pharmacies are set to participate in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 Vaccination.

The CDC says the program is a collaboration between the federal government, states and territories, along with 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks to increase access to COVID-19 vaccination.

The following pharmacies in Michigan will be receiving vaccine doses through the program during the week of Feb. 8:

  • Rite Aid Corp.
  • LeaderNET and Medicine Shoppe, Cardinal Health’s PSAOs
  • Meijer Inc.

Pharmacy partners will screen individuals to determine their vaccination eligibility according to the state’s vaccination plan. They will focus on vaccinating individuals who are eligible for vaccination based on state-selected criteria.

Per the CDC, pharmacy partners were enrolled based on their population served and community reach, capability to store vaccines and ensure cold chain management, ability to meet data reporting requirements, and capacity to vaccinate (estimated daily number of doses each facility is able to administer.)

The CDC worked with states and territories to select initial pharmacy partners to start the program in their communities.
