Doctors urging people to get flu shots

More than 80,000 Americans died from the flu last season.

As we brace for another flu season to start, local doctors are urging people to get vaccinated.

Dr. Susan fedewa at 98point6 Emergicenter in Lansing says the only practical way to fight the disease is to get a flu shot.

The CDC estimates that flu vaccines prevent tens of thousands of hospitalizations every year. The agency recommends an annual flu vaccine for everyone over six months old.

The flu shot is offered at doctor’s offices, local health departments, pharmacies and other places.
