The Monroe County Health Department has announced it soon will hold an influenza vaccination clinic in Monroe.
The clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 8 at Monroe County Community College, administration building, 1555 S. Raisinville Road.
To schedule an appointment, call 734-240-7800 or 734-240-7830.
This is one in a series of public flu clinics the health department has scheduled in response to traditional seasonal flu season.
Peak season for influenza usually is late November through March. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that those 6 months of age and older get the yearly influenza vaccine.
Face masks are required while attending the clinic.
An individual will not be eligible for the flu vaccine if experiencing flu-like symptoms, waiting for results of a COVID-19 test or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms – cough, fever greater than 100.4, loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea or muscle aches.
Those seeking a vaccine should bring their identification and insurance card to the clinic. Cash and check also are accepted, if immunizations are not a covered benefit.
The charge for the flu vaccine is $35; the high dose flu is $55.
The pneumonia vaccine also is available for those who qualify, and the charge is $135 for PPSV23 and $220 for Prevnar.
The charge through the Vaccines for Children’s Program is $20. Both flu and pneumonia may be given at the same visit.
For information, call the MCHD at 734-240-7830.
General information and updates about the flu are available by calling the flu hotline number at 734-240-7878.
