Getting Ready For The Holidays: The Importance of Getting Vaccinated

We’re so grateful to Kelsey, of Doing Mom Things, for partnering with us to share her story. Read her full blog here.

The importance of keeping our children’s vaccinations up to date cannot be overstated, especially during this season when respiratory illness are spreading quickly. With the holidays fast approaching, we need to make sure that our families and friends are safe from vaccine-preventable diseases. As parents, we have a responsibility to ensure that our children are healthy and protected.

It’s no secret that my family likes to be on the go and around people. Hosting parties, going to the movies, hands-on museums, and just being around others makes us all happy. So staying healthy is vital.

To make sure our four kids are up to date on all their vaccinations, we schedule regular visits with our pediatrician. We can track and keep a record through our online portal, which is convenient.

One of the most important things we do to protect our family during this season is to get our annual flu shot. My husband makes sure of this each fall and I am grateful for that! The flu can be particularly dangerous for children, and getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent it. We make sure that every member of our family gets vaccinated, including ourselves and our older relatives.

In addition to getting vaccinated, we also practice good hygiene habits such as washing our hands frequently and teaching our kids to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. Our youngest makes sure to ask all his siblings, and sometimes us if we’ve washed our hands when we leave the bathroom; it’s so sweet.

It’s not just about protecting our own family, though. By ensuring that our kids are vaccinated, we are also protecting our community. Some people cannot receive certain vaccinations due to medical reasons, and they rely on herd immunity to stay protected. When more people in a community are vaccinated, it becomes much harder for diseases to spread.

Keeping our children’s vaccinations up to date is incredibly important, especially during this season. By getting caught up on routine childhood immunizations, getting our annual flu shot, and staying protected ahead of the holiday season, we can help keep our families and our communities safe. Let’s all do our part to protect ourselves and those around us from vaccine-preventable diseases
