Health department to offer drive-thru flu shots, COVID vaccine events

This story appeared in the Cheboygan Daily Tribune. Read more here.

District Health Department Four will be hosting several drive-thru flu shot clinics during the month of October for those who live and work in Cheboygan, Montmorency, Presque Isle and Alpena counties.

The first of these clinics will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the District Health Department Four office in Alpena, 100 Woods Circle. The second will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Cheboygan Knights of Columbus Hall in Cheboygan, 9840 N. Straits Hwy.

Anyone who would like to receive their flu shot can go to one of these two clinics. The entire process takes around 10-15 minutes to complete.

To receive a shot, stay in your vehicle and wear a short sleeved shirt. All insurances can be billed and people are asked to bring their insurance card, so the health department can bill the proper insurance.

There will not be an office call fee to receive your flu shot. If you do not have insurance, you can still get a shot for a $30 fee.

Those receiving the shot are also asked to not bring dogs with them to their appointments, for safety precautions.

It is preferred that people make an appointment to receive their flu shot at one of these two clinics. This can be scheduled by calling 1 (800) 221-0294.

The health department is also offering several COVID-19 testing and vaccination events throughout the month.

Every Wednesday during the month of October, from 1-7 p.m., Alpena Community College will be hosting vaccination events. These events will offer all three brands of the COVID-19 vaccine — Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson — as well as COVID-19 booster shots.

No preregistration is needed for these vaccination events.

Vaccine appointments an also be made by calling the health department at 1 (800) 221-0294.

There are several testing events coming up around the four-county service area as well, offering the rapid (15 minute) tests and the PCR tests, which take two to three days for results.

Every Thursday during the month of October, from 1-7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Cheboygan, these tests will be available. Alpena Community College will be offering the tests every Wednesday during the month, from 1-7 p.m., and Thunder Bay Junior High will be having the testing events every Saturday this month, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
