How Michigan ranks on 30 health indicators

Michigan ranks 34th overall among the 50 states in a new report by the United Health Foundation, which analyzed a long list of health outcomes and other indicators. In 2015, Michigan was 35th. This slideshow looks at how Michigan compares to other states on individual indicators, beginning with the indicators where the state ranks best. Note: On the maps, the lighter the shading, the higher the ranking.
How the other states rank

From the report: “Hawaii has ranked first for five straight years and has been in the top spot eight times since 1990, the most for any state in the history of America’s Health Rankings. It has been in the top six states since the first edition of America’s Health Rankings in 1990. … Mississippi ranks 50th in 2016. Mississippi has ranked in the bottom three states since the first edition of America’s Health Rankings in 1990. Mississippi and Louisiana score far worse than the other states in the bottom five.”

Recommended Immunization Schedules

These schedules list the age or age range when each vaccine or series of shots is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). If your child (birth through 6 years old) or adolescent (age 7 through 18 years old) has missed any shots, talk to your child’s doctor about getting back on track.

Michigan School & Childcare Immunization Requirements

Request your child’s immunization record

The Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), is an immunization registry managed by MDHHS and reported to by immunization providers. MCIR allows healthcare providers or individuals to access their immunization records regardless of their location in Michigan. This system also helps to track local and state immunization rates of Michigan residents to ensure immunity to vaccine-preventable illnesses. MCIR is a lifespan registry that includes infant through adult records.
