It’s highly contagious and it’s making the rounds through at least one school district here in mid-Michigan. It is called the whooping cough.
Grand Ledge Public Schools has already confirmed several cases of it and some parents have reached out saying Mason Public Schools has it as well, but FOX 47 News has not confirmed that yet.
FOX 47’s Marcus Dash spoke with Angela Minicuci, communications director at the Michigan Department of Health and Human services. According to Minicuci, the whooping cough starts off like any other common cold, but as it progresses, you can hear the sharp sound in the cough that sets it apart.
She says, the whooping cough can be contracted by people of any age, however it is the most harmful and prevalent with infants.
Their advice to families is to take precautions by getting the vaccine, washing your hands, and disinfecting commonly touched areas.
The best way to ensure safety on everyone’s end is for everyone to get the vaccine, instead of just the baby getting it.
